Orillia sits where Lake Couchiching opens toward Lake Simcoe, about half an hour north of Barrie along Highway 11. It is a full small city rather than a cottage town, with its own downtown, waterfront parks, a modern recreation centre and year-round services.
Housing runs from century character homes on the older streets near downtown, through post-war bungalows, to newer subdivisions on the west side and waterfront properties along the lakes.
